For my third look in my Final Frightdown mini series, I decided to opt for a Mrs Potato Head look. Now, this isn't the Disney spud, but the reconstructed, cosmetic surgery damaged, character created by Melanie Martinez.
I love Melanie Martinez and I instantly knew I wanted to do a look (or two?) inspired by the dark sides of her album. Now, I am evidently not the first person to have created what is a botched plastic surgery makeup look, but I did take inspiration from the way Mrs Potato Head looks in Melanie's video.
For this look you will need grey eyeshadow, black liquid liner, red face paint lip gloss and fake blood.
I began this look by taking a grey eyeshadow and creating the effect of bruising under the eyes. This should be placed in the eyebags area to insinuate swelling as oppose to a black eye. I used my finger to apply this shadow as I wanted it to look as messy as possible, but if you want to blend it out with brushes this is completely up to you.
I used black liquid eyeliner to carve out the places of Mrs Potato Head's surgery. I drew out two arrows pointing up above the centre of my brow, then went along the eyebags to create arrow directions for this. For the cheeks I made an oval shape where you would usually apply a contour shade. I then added some of the grey shadow in parts of the cheek to give the effect of bruising. I also outlined a semi circle on my chin.
Next comes one of my favourite parts of the look which is the nose wound. I applied red face paint where you would usually nose contour and then rounded this off at the tip of my nose. I added in a little bit of grey eyeshadow in places to darken the blood and make it more gruesome. I had applied a cotton gauze across the bridge of my nose so you could still see the wound but so it was suggestive the face was still post surgery, however, this kept falling off so I just went au creepy. I then added a tiny bit of fake blood into the lines to make the wound look fresher.
Lastly, and my most favourite part is the lips. I used a brush and red face paint to badly shape the lips. I then smudged this out to give the effect of swelling. Above my lip I spread some grey shadow to add depth to the swelling and to give the impression of bruising. I also did this slightly under my bottom lip too. I also added tiny bits of the grey to the corners of my lips to show where the needle marks would have been for the fillers. I personally hate lipgloss but I did add some to give the lips a fuller look. Colourpop do some great glosses which actually don't feel sticky!
And voila- one very inexpensive and incredibly botched cosmetic surgery!
See you in my next post.
