21 Songs that Shaped My Life

Hello everyone,
I'm here with another 21st birthday themed post. What I forgot to mention in my thing's I've learned post, is that music is everything. Whether you're at a wedding, birthday party, concert, funeral, or a car journey, there's a song that goes with it.
I wanted to write a quick post mentioning just 21 of the songs that have been significant in my life. This list is in no ascending order and the songs were SO HARD to narrow down, but here they are:

  1. Hold On by the Jonas Brothers- I mean, I had to start with a banger, right? I can recall hearing this song for the very first time. I was sat in my living room, watching the Disney Channel when the music video came on. That was it. I then wrote the lyrics in every notebook I owned and became obsessed with the JOBROS <3
  2. Whatshername by Green Day- American Idiot was the first album I bought with my own money. I listened to it religiously and drew the characters, like St Jimmy, and wrote stories about them. That's right, I invented emo fan fiction.
  3. I Must be Dreaming by The Maine- I don't even want to go into this. My favourite band, the first song I heard by them. The rest is history.
  4. Dead! by My Chemical Romance- The Black Parade was my favourite album. I made my family bring it with us on holiday and I can recall this song playing, whilst we drove down a hill and we really thought we would be dead!
  5. Overprotected by Britney Spears- SHE WAS MY GODDESS, and I still adore her. I remember getting a Britney cassette (yes kids, cassette!) for my fifth birthday, and I had more Britney dolls than Barbies.
  6. Forever and Ever, Amen by The Drums- This song and band were so influential to me when I was 16 and going through that wannabee hipster stage. I always get nostalgic when I hear this.
  7. Lover, You Should've Come Over by Jeff Buckley- I love Jeff so much and often get sad that I never got to live when he did. His album Grace is one of my favourites of all time. A wonderfully talented man.
  8. Transmission by Joy Division- Another act I wish I could have lived for. There's no sound like Joy Division.
  9. Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush- I feel like I'm writing about all the acts and songs that weren't made in my 21 years of life. Kate Bush is an icon and this song is EVERYTHING. Seriously, go and learn the dance.
  10. Seasons of Love by Rent cast- This is my favourite show and one of my favourite songs of all time.
  11. Spanish Sahara by Foals- this song means the world to me. The lyrics are beyond beautiful and I LOVE how the song builds.
  12. Team by Lorde- I miss Lorde, where is she? I need new music. Every single one of her songs could have made this list.
  13. Tear in my Heart by Twenty One Pilots- BECAUSE I WANT SOMEONE TO LOVE ME THE WAY TYLER LOVES JENNA!
  14. California by Phantom Planet- the title track for the OC and a song which always makes me miss a place I've never been to.
  15. Salt, Sweat, Sugar by Jimmy Eat World- I feel like this song has many titles, but I know it as the angry walk to uni song.
  16. Me by the 1975- this song makes me SO EMO. When I saw it live I had 2984984 breakdowns. I just hope Matty is okay.
  17. Call it What You Want by Foster the People- I'm pretty sure this song is the most played on my iPod. it is so upbeat, a true bop!
  18. That's What you Get by Paramore- I LOVE THIS BAND, THIS SONG, THIS ALBUM!
  19. Autobiography by Ashlee Simpson- I was once obsessed with Ashlee. She was my idol and this album was the best god damn thing I'd heard.
  20. Airplanes by 5 Seconds of Summer- this is the newest song on the list, but it doesn't mean it's any less important. I wish they would play it live (for me).
  21. This is Me by Demi Lovato- I had to finish with a banger too! This song was there for me when I had no friends and I love driving with my friends now and screaming the words to this song, a true contrast to how this song once made me feel.
Thank you for reading,
I hope you enjoyed this post,
Love Aimee :) x
