First Impressions: Pink Parcel

My Vinyl Collection: April 2017

Hello everyone,

Almost a year ago I was gifted with the most magical possession to have graced my life, that was a smol, cute, red record player. Since then, I have built up quite a collection of records and I love them so much that I wanted to dedicate a post to them.

(In no way is this a braggy post about owning a record player nor is it pretentious AF, I just really love my lil collection and wanted you to know all about it).

I'm not entirely sure how to structure this post because honestly, how do I convey what I am trying to say? I guess we will start with the basics of why I collect vinyl. It seems odd that in this age and also me being a millennial, that I prefer something I have to search out in shops and online for when I could just instantly stream or download an album. I think it is mostly down to the fact I love physical copies of things. Growing up I always had a thing for owning actual cd's and even on occasions when I do download music, I usually go out and purchase the physical edition. For as long as I can remember, I have always dreamed of having a lil collection of records (when I'm an actual adult with my own home). Everyone always states the smell of vinyl, but honestly, given the amount of head colds I've suffered in the last year, I cannot comment on this, but what I can share is that holding vinyl is pretty similar to how it probably felt when Mary held Jesus for the first time. (Have I ever mentioned that I'm melodramatic?). Records just feel so sleek, the actual disks come in an array of colours and patterns, which is truly fulfilling and they make for nice décor (if you have the room, unlike myself).

So let's move on to my actual collection. My first record was a gift, along with my player, and it is Blurryface by twentyonepilots. I may have mentioned once or twice how much I love this band/album and to have it as my first record is pretty magical. Alongside Blurryface I also have Vessel and Blurryface Live. I really hope to get everything TOP have released on vinyl in the future, but for now I am incredibly happy with my little clique shrine.

Also in my collection are:

Badlands by Halsey
Death of a Bachelor by P!ATD
Back to Black by Amy Winehouse
Better Weather by With Con
Stranger Things OST
California by Blink 182
The Black Parade by MCR

A pattern I have noticed in my record collection is that I tend to opt for albums that have impacted my life and music tastes in some way. For example The Black Parade threw me into EMOLAND, Back to Black is a masterpiece I will always love, Badlands is filled with poetry and so on. Vinyl can be incredibly expensive at times and so I always make sure I am going to love the record I purchase.

In terms of storage my method is not the best, especially in terms of the grand scheme of things. I keep the records in plastic wallet sleeves, in order to ensure dust/damage can be minimised. However, I would really love a small case or something to fully protect them. Given the sleeves are a little bit bulky, I have stopped purchasing for now due to limited space in my house. If you know of any cool, pinterest-esque means of storing them then please do let me know.

I also have a miniature list of records I would love to get my hands on in the future which are as follows:

Pure Heroine by Lorde
Dookie by Green Day
American Idiot by Green Day
Around the World and Back by State Champs
Grace by Jeff Buckley
Is this It by The Strokes
Drive North by SWMRS
ENTIRE DISCOGRAPHY OF THE MAINE

If you would like to know a little bit more about my collection and would like to hear me babble on about them in further detail then you are in luck. I have filmed a lil old 'My Vinyl Collection' video which you can watch below!

See you in my next post.

Love, Aimee :) x
