Hello and welcome back to this very unloved and untouched bloggy thing. I'm sorry it has been a while since my last post, but I have been very busy doing emo things. Some of those things involved seeing All Time Low twice on their UK tour, and given how my last post about All Time Low got all soppy and heartfelt, I guess it is inevitable that this one takes the same route!
It all starts at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith. A venue with quite fangirl frazzled memories given I saw Shawn Mendes there. Myself, Ernie, Mom and Georgina got to the venue close enough to doors that we didn't have to brave the cold for too long. It is safe to say that Mom, Ernie and I were slightly concerned we wouldn't be in time for Waterparks to open (our current obsession; Joff is SMOL, Awsten is bright like a night star, Otto is Otto). Fortunately we got a spot just before their set and honestly, WE JAMMED ALOT given Awsten appeared to be on vocal rest and couldn't really give the set they'd have liked to.
We missed the second support act, SWMRS, due to wanting merch, needing to pee, being distracted by Bry and a beer spillage. At the time I hadn't listened to SWMRS so I wasn't that bothered, however, at this moment in time I HATE MYSELF FOR MISSING THEM given they are my current favourite band!
We then made our way to the back of the crowd for ATL's set. One thing I love about the Apollo is that it such a wide and relatively decent sized standing pit, that even at the back, you still have a great view. As this was the first show of the tour the setlist was fresh for us all. Everything was a bop for the opener, Kicking and Screaming, but then I HEARD THE FIRST NOTE OF SOMEWHERE IN NEVERLAND and my ugly crying began. I mean full on, ugly crying, I am glad my mascara was waterproof! It was induced by three things; my undying love for Peter Pan, the fact they hardly perform it so I wasn't expecting it and also because someone said the next song was going to be Lullabies and I needed to LEAVE. Fortunately, Lullabies didn't appear on the setlist, but my tears did continue. I love Cinderblock Garden so, so much, and honestly I feel like it is not appreciated enough and THE MOMENT THEY STARTED PLAYING my heart left my body and I was thrown into an emocalypse! Of course I inevitably had aN ACTUAL MOMENT WHERE I MELTED during Therapy, and I had the most loveliest friends hugging me WHICH MADE ME FEEL SO GOOD. My favourite things about All Time Low are how long I have loved them, how they've continued to mean so much to me, and how much my pals also love them. Mom, Ernie and I have talked about seeing ATL, watched Straight to DVD together and so to see ATL with them was such a delight. It is the best feeling to see one of your favourite bands with some of your favourite humans.
Fast forward a few days later and I am in Birmingham with Emmy. Now, it seems to be a tradition that we also see ATL together, given that we saw them in Bham previously and also at the Kingston Acoustic a few years back. We needed food and so had a little rest stop in Nandos (for which on the way to the venue ATL CREW WERE INFRONT OF US AND WE WERE SCREAMING INSIDE). The queue for this was not pleasant as another artist, Dodie, was performing the same night and THERE WAS ONE QUEUE for both acts. I was honestly so CONCERNED that we would miss PARX as at 7:30 we were still outside. But low and behold, we made it inside in time for the actual PRINCES TO GET ON STAGE. For this show Awsten was feeling better and it one hundred thousand percent showed. He is such a fantastic frontman I swear, he was born for it. He is sarcastic, funny and JUST IS SUCH A GOOD HUMAN I APPROVE! I also enjoyed his little dance action to GEOFF during Royal.
Now, let's go back to SWMRS. As I've mentioned I had not listened to them at all and I had also missed them in London. Thus, I didn't know what to expect from them. I gotta say, on reflection Cole is an amazing frontman. He is rowdy and anyone who makes a speech about Donald Trump gets my votes. However, their set was almost headline length long, and when you don't know any songs it can feel long winded. If I were to go to a show now I would honestly mostly be there for SWMRS, which to be honest, shows they've done their job because I have gone home and listened to them non stop, bought their merch and I'm eyes glued to them announcing a UK tour.
All Time Low were every bit as fantastic as they had been in London. I just cannot express how happy being at their shows makes me. Usually I get incredibly sad when a concert ends and I have to go back to reality, but with All Time Low I am always just so buzzing and high on life. I truly think their gigs are some kind of gateway to happiness. From the lighting, to the setlist and the CONFETTI CANNON, this tour has been truly amazing and I am so thankful for the memories and also coming back with a new favourite band and the desire to see Parx headline.
Thank you for reading this post, I'm sorry if it was long winded and word vomit!
See you in my next post.
Love, Aimee :) x
