Hello everyone,
So today I found myself scrolling through a massive emo avalanche on Timehop as a result of an event I attended exactly a year ago today; 5SOS @ ITunes Festival!
The emo swamp of posts included selfies of a sleep deprived me consuming pumpkin lattes to feel a little more alive, the massive banner with 5SOS's faces on which I woke up to outside the Roundhouse and on more than ten occasions the word emo was used!
I wanted to write this post as talking about your feelings is supposed to be cathartic, and with all this emo inside me, something needs to be done, so here goes my (hopefully) mini post about 5SOS's iTunes gig.
Let's start with September 3rd, the day before the event. We (me, Emmy, Vanessa, Georgina and Amy) headed to Capital where we were reunited with Steve (where art thou?) and managed to meet the bane of my emo. We had pretty much convinced ourselves we wouldn't meet them as a certain celebrity *Kim Kardashian* was also in the building with a mob of fans waiting for her. But, we lined up anyway and to our amazement the car stopped, the boys stepped out and I believed in God for that moment. I'm not going to be lame and cry about that day but it was my all time favourite experience meeting them (even though we didn't meet Calum and Luke bc of the Kim K fans :/ ). Later that day we had a heads up that they would be performing on Strictly Come Dancing (LMAO) and thought going to the studio wouldn't be too bad because we had literally nothing else to do. It was an occasion in which I almost cried because I lost my lipstick (which I hadn't) and the sound of Vanessa's snorting confirmed that we had been spotted by the band and their security. We knew they wouldn't stop. There was no area at the venue for us to meet them and the car would drive straight out onto the main road, but with nothing to lose we waited, and the unthinkable happened. The car drove out, stopped, Dave got out (what a lad) saw that we weren't a mob, got back in the car and a newly redhead Michael stepped out to say hey! After this we headed to the Roundhouse for the longest night of our lives, queuing for iTunes.

me so happy to queue! |
The camp out was interesting to say the least. A rat in the streets caused screams, a load of drunk lads who knew about Calum's nude joined the queue and got into some of our sleeping bags causing incredible amounts of us telling them to EFF OFF! But somehow in the cold and with the noise we managed to fall asleep. I woke up to the biggest banner I've ever seen of 5SOS above me and grunted. We headed to Starbucks where I cried over the fact they did another cover of I Miss You whilst at the Live Lounge. The queue was pretty disorganised, we got moved here there and everywhere, as more people showed up the more complicated it got. But security pulled through and we got to the barrier once doors opened. I had a little hiccup getting in but the greatness of the gig completely shook any horrendous feelings I had. Quite a few of our friends had won tickets to and it was super cool to all share the gig from different viewpoints. Charlie Simpson was a good opening act (minus the unzipped fly on his trousers!) and honestly could have imploded with excitement as the countdown went off for 5SOS' entrance. By the second song I feared I would become a puddle of sweat and tears. The setlist was by far one of the best I've seen them perform. The Roundhouse is a stunning venue and it was so nice to see them perform one of their last small shows before their arena tour. Of course Heartbreak Girl and Out of My Limit were on the setlist but the moment they played End Up Here for the first time ever I genuinely thought my friends and I would be escorted away for fangirling. It was a moment where I was singing along but couldn't fit the song together and we all realised at the same time the song that was playing and let out little screams, it was THE MOST FUN I HAVE EVER HAD!
Michael and I shared the hair dye running pain and there was too much Ashton in this gig for my lil emo heart. I found the crowd was a little rowdy, the girl behind me certainly wanted to push herself to the barrier, but it was super incredible to have been there. I love their Teenage Dream cover so much and I'm very heartbreak emoji that they no longer play it (don't tell Ashton) I didn't want this gig to end and seeing all the emo Timehop posts today made me tear up a little, because it feels like yesterday when we were lining up on the barrier waiting for their intro, being all giggly in the car on the way home. Seeing 5SOS this summer has obviously been an incredible time but the Roundhouse compared to Wembley is so much more alive and whilst I want them to play bigger venues and get bigger and better and take on the world small venues make me feel so happy. You can feel the energy of the crowd, you're all pitted together in a sweaty mess, cups of water spill over the crowd and you get to go WILD!
I am so excited each and every time I'm lucky enough to see this band live and their iTunes performance is a night I will never ever forget!
Thank you for reading,
Aimee :) x
